Day 12: A Character You Have Always Wanted To Meet (But Never Have)
I really have met just about every character at the park that is used on a regular basis. Thanks to the opening of the Big Thunder Ranch Jamboree, I’ve even had a chance to meet Horace Horsecollar, so I can cross him off the list! If you ask my daughter, the answer would probably be Pocahontas – the only one of the ten “official” Disney Princesses she has yet to meet. Guess the colors of the wind aren’t included in The Princess Fantasy Faire. However, I do have a desire to meet a particular character. One of my all time favorites, along with Mickey, Donald and Goofy. A character that I know exists, but is almost never seen in the park with the exception of parades and garbage cans.
Jiminy, you elusive cricket. Why don’t you ever come out to meet me? I’ve seen you on parade floats – I’ve heard you make appearances at private parties. Yet, no regular visits. The biggest reason I can think of is the idea, that next to Pinocchio, the supposedly miniscule cricket is a behemoth. There’s no “Cricket Hollow,” where, like Tinkerbell, it can be believed that guests are shrunk down to his size. And no, I don’t believe his popularity is big enough to warrant it. It would just be fun to get my picture taken with the fellow.
Yet, he’s in the park regardless. As stated by me so many times before, you hear his voice underneath Sleeping Beauty’s Castle convincing you that dreams come true – all it takes is the wish on the star. He guides your ride vehicle on Pinocchio’s Daring Journey, trying to be the conscience the little wooden head so desperately needs! (Look out! You’re going the wrong way!) He’s on one of many bronze statues that surround the Partners that started it all – a testament to dreams coming true. And of course, he’s there as the face of “Environmentality,” making sure we treat the earth with the respect it deserves – in this case, by throwing our plastic water bottles in properly marked containers (one of my daughter’s favorite things to do at the park, believe it or not!).
He’s just not out for pictures and autographs. Maybe I’ll start wishing on a different star for that one.
Now it’s your turn! Anyone else out there have a favorite that they’ve yet to meet at the parks?
Jiminy gets my vote, too. And he used to ride on a float in the Parade of Dreams, so I know he exists!
You’re dreams come truuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuue.
That’s a good one, forgot about him. I picked Sally though, because
that would mean I’m there closer to Halloween time. Usually by the time
we get there during holiday season, though, of course Haunted Mansion
Holiday overlay is still up, but Jack and Sally are gone. I might
have to post an afterthought to my picks now !!
I’ve met the step sisters in Disneyworld, but they recently came to Disneyland and I want to meet them here! Also I’ve never met Wendy, but she’s not much different than Alice so there’s not too much to be missing there.
I would love to meet Figaro, but I don’t think he exists 😦 I’ve seen Marie, so maybe there’s hope! Figaro holds a special place in my heart, as I had an amazing cat named Summer who was black and white. We rescued her while camping (the rangers were trying to trap her). She was a mess, missing an eye, part of her toe missing, needed all her shots and to be spayed. I gave up my annual Disneyland trip to pay for her vet bills. She was the most loyal, loving cat ever. Because we loved her so much, when I found out I was expecting my first baby, we did the baby’s room in a Figaro theme. Now, both my boys LOVE Figaro too. Unfortunately, we had to put Summer down in early 2009. She was a manx and became paralyzed. She was miserable. Hardest thing I’ve ever had to do =(
I think I would cry happy tears if I ever saw a Figaro walking around the park!
Awwww! I’ve never seen a Figaro, but that would be awesome!
Gonna have to go with Quasimodo. My 5 year old is such a fan and it’s a character I don’t think we’ll ever see again which is a shame because Hunchback is one of Disney’s best animated movies ever!
And mine would love to meet Esmerelda – this needs to happen sometime, somehow!
Being a Sleeping Beauty fan I would love to meet Maleficent! Even as evil as she is, it would be sorta cool!
Just stumbled across your site and saw this posting. In 2009 I was at Walt Disney World and came across a meet and greet with Jiminy at Conservation Station at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. I was so angry with myself that I didn’t have my camera with me since I’m not going to lug my SLR around every day. Phone? That’s locked up in the room…I’m on vacation. And on top of that I didn’t see any of the Disney photographers around either. So I just admired him from a distance and mumbling, “I want my camera.”
